STILL While wandering through market, Looking for a message, on any used, rugged cloth from vendor to vendor; After a failed effort, reached to bus stand. There, I saw a young man of my age, brown hair and beard, sitting on a foot path: Looked at me, said, "What are you looking for?" I said, "Looking but not seen?" "I'm also looking. Both of us lit cigarettes, and I sat beside him. He looked at me and smiled: Without talking with each other, We were watching people. I left and reached my room, thought for awhile. What was I looking for? It was him! This reminded me of,

'Ask, Seek, Knock.'

VENDOR

It was eclipse of June and plague roaming. Only few vendors were on the streets among others, one catches my gaze: None was looking what he was selling. Head down hung in poverty, hand on nose, consumed by eternal despair and grief, we didn't talk, so I took his picture and he smiled. I came again to see him, but he was not there; I asked others for his name and address; His house cramped, full of people and children, I asked them, where is he? They said, "He's gone" as if he was even rejected by his own. Some are so strange, not matter what we do, we can't paint them;

Where from they come, where do they go: No one knows? Never I saw him again.

COBBLER

What can I do for you? I want to color my boots. Which one? Brown; Sit down in the corner, and wait: Corner: I've been through my life in corners. Every time you come, your boots are of pure leather; I like leather;

Another person speaks up, I'll do what you asked for. Speaks of end time people: Well, Deaf and blind people, don't see prophet, Those who know, don't accept? Truth! Where is your motorcycle? Brakes are not working good, so I don't ride these days. Next time if you come again, I'll polish the pair. How much? You know: As you wish.

Hanan Muzafar is from Sopore, Kashmir, has done MTech Electronics and Communication Engineering from Cochin University of Science and Technology, Kerala. He has been writing poetry and quotes for many years. For him, writing is more than just words, maybe a way to express himself and others. Yes, it's difficult to write in a society where views are not accepted much. He is quite the worldly philosopher, an enlightened soul aerated by the light of a kindred spirit.
